Ayvalık
The old town just starts next street to us. The stone houses and the churches will give you an impression how life was 100 years ago in this town.
Until 1922 Ayvalık, with its old name Kidonya was a Greek autonomy. After the population exchange muslim people from Crete and Lesvos were settled in this town. The Greek ortodox people left to Athens and Lesvos.
As Kidonya means quince in Greek the name changed from Kidonya into Ayvalık which has the same meaning.
According to the Greek mythology Taliani was one of the old names of Ayvalık.
